Find out about how to live with dyslexia

An event this Thursday aims to show people what it is like to live with dyslexia.

The Friends of Dyslexia Canada is hosting a "Dyslexia for a Day" workshop at the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities. Cheryl Hoffmann, director of the K-C Dyslexia Learning Centre, says that t

his event is for people to understand what it is like to live with this condition.

"We want people to understand that people with dyslexia are smart, and have above-average intelligence," Hoffmann said. "We're teaching about what to look for, and how to see it and help."

Hoffmann, a parent of two children with dyslexia, says that misunderstanding the condition in schools can lead kids to drop out. "We can empower those dyslexic children and give them the tools they need to be functional in the general population of education," she said.

At this event, people will be asked to write a paragraph on what you did the day before, but there is a catch. You only have to write it with your left hand. "We hope to have teachers and parents to come out, so they know how their children and students feel and what they are going through," Hoffmann said.
